From personal stories to the project cases and business insights. In 2020, we have actively covered our achievements, history, and culture.

We know how challenging it is to allocate enough time for everything you are interested in. With this in mind, we've prepared a digest of the most interesting news and materials shared with you during the year.

1. Cloud Platform for 3D Printers. A Story of One Project

How did the AMC Bridge team develop a concept of a cloud platform for Rize Inc., a well-recognized manufacturer of the world's first hybrid 3D printers? What is the concept of the platform, and how was it implemented?

"To ensure secure additive manufacturing and easily manage access restrictions, Rize Connect Cloud Platform can be configured either as a public or a private cloud. A private cloud allows an organization to customize its resources to meet the specific requirements and protect sensitive data."

2. Six Steps that Will Help Adopt Changes on the Project. The PM's Experience

In his article on DOU.ua, Maksym Ostrovskyi, AMC Bridge Manager of PMO Department, explains the changes in the project management system.

"My colleagues often share ideas on how they would like to improve the PM system. To be honest, project management is the sphere that continuously requires enhancement. However, instead of focusing on potential improvements, I'd like to talk about changes, how to handle them when they are due, and what will happen if you overlook them.

Changes are driven by a desire to improve. This is because every business owner and every employee wants to make their work more effective, profitable, less costly, and as a result, provide top-notch services. I hope this article will help at least one person avoid obvious mistakes and failures."

3. "It's an Incredible Stimulus to Deal with the Things You Only Read About"

In our Telegram channel, we've collected stories shared by our colleagues who effectively combine work and study. In the first and second parts of the article, they describe their career path from a student to an AMC Bridge developer.

What were their first impressions of the job? How do they manage work and studies? What are their recommendations for students who want to start working? For example, Oleksii Sergeev, a student of the Applied Mathematics faculty of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, told about his interview.

"The interview started with a general part during which a recruiter got to know more about me as a person. Then, it smoothly changed towards a technical part, where I had to demonstrate my skills and competence. I coped with the theory without any difficulties. A practical task was quite interesting. Frankly speaking, I found it easy at first. However, my technical interviewer gradually increased the difficulty so that I arrived at applying a programming pattern to the final code. I used Strategy, if I’m not mistaken. And that was cool since I'd never used that approach to solve tasks of that kind. Thanks to the interview, I was enrolled in the internship program at AMC Bridge and gained valuable experience."

4. Niche Markets and Specialization in IT. How to Enter a Market with Low Competition and High Demand

What is specialization in IT? How does having a service niche works for an outsourcing company?

Igor Tsinman, Cofounder and President of AMC Bridge, answers the above-mentioned questions in this article.

"For over 28 years, I've been working in the IT industry: 8 years — in Ukraine, 20 years — in the US. In the 90s, I held senior managerial positions in the US-based software companies. 20 years ago, my friends and I founded our own company, where I've been working ever since. We specialize in the engineering software, so our services are sought after by the construction, mechanical engineering, aircraft, architecture, and robotics industries.

I am confident that specialization is the future of the IT business. In this article, I'll tell you about the ups and downs of specialization, the things to consider when you enter a niche market, and how to gain a foothold on it. The topics will be of interest to the IT professionals, managers, and business owners who already work in or consider joining a specific IT domain."

5. Robotics, Construction Visualization, and Price Configurator: Top Three Research Projects

What do our teams develop? Learn about top three 2020 projects of the Research department without any NDA restrictions.

1. Robotic Construction Caulking for Autodesk Inventor® POC

As you may gather from the name, this project is related to robotics. Using the Autodesk Inventor® CAD package and Robotics Library™, our team implemented a proof of concept (POC) that allows robot-based sealant application to wall panels.

The POC has the functionality of panel recognition, sealant parameters configuration, and robot movement planning. It enables the users to upload wall panels, specify the sealant type, volume, and consumption, calculate and adjust the robot movement path and operation, as well as generate a PDF process report.

2. Unreal Construction Timeline Viewer для Navisworks technology

In 2020, our team presented a technology demonstration that can visualize the timelines of the project construction process. Unreal Construction Timeline Viewer for Navisworks can export 3D model geometry, materials, and timelines from Navisworks® 3D model review software and simulate the model construction process in the Unreal® Engine-based executable prototype.

3. Price Configurator for Autodesk Revit on Unreal

And about money. Accurate cost estimation is an important element of project success, particularly in the AEC industry.

With Price Configurator for Autodesk® Revit® on Unreal®, the users can export and import project costs data between Autodesk® Revit® building information modeling software and Autodesk® BIM 360® construction management software, view the model and item costs in 3D using the Unreal Engine® 3D creation tool, and make on-the-spot cost editing. The cost changes made in the Unreal Engine environment will be automatically updated in BIM 360 construction management software and vice versa.

The interesting fact about this technology demonstration is that it is implemented by combining CAD software and a game engine.
